A fire at the Spartan Light Metals Products facility in Sparta, 510 E. McClurken Ave., caused minor damage to the ceiling in the magnesium/melting area of the plant, according to Sparta Fire Chief Brian Adams.

"They had a small fire in a vent fan in the roof," said Adams, who added the cause of the fire is currently unknown. "It had spread into the ceiling."

"(Spartan Light Metals) pretty much controlled the fire with their own people, we just assisted them," Adams said.
