Pauline Broeking, formerly of Marion

Pauline Anna (Kobler) Broeking passed away on December 14, 2021 in San Diego, California at the age of 100. She was born on May 22, 1921 to Henry (Butch) and Katherine (Krumrey) Kobler on a farm near Marion, Illinois.

Pauline married Herbert (Mutt) Broeking at Zion United Church of Christ in Marion on January 26, 1946. They shared 61 years of marriage until his death on March 4, 2007.

She graduated from Marion High School and Lockyear's Business College in Evansville, Indiana. After graduating she worked as a secretary at Sunbeam Electric and Hoosier-Cardinal Corporation in Evansville. She returned to Marion in December 1945 and was married the following month. Pauline worked for E. Blankenship and Company until her first son was born in 1950. After raising her family she returned to work as secretary at Zion Church. She worked there for over 20 years and retired in 1987.

She was a lifelong member of Zion Church and participated actively in many activities. She was a Sunday school teacher, worked with the daily vacation Bible School, held offices in the Women's Guild and was a den mother in the church's Cub Scout troupe.

Pauline was a life member of the Hospital Auxiliary, delivered Meals on Wheels, helped with the annual youth baseball Memorial Day chicken barbecue and worked in the soup kitchen.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law. Michael and Geri Broeking of Aspen, Colorado and Gregory and Heidi Broeking of San Diego, California; two granddaughters Whitney Broeking and Lesley Schaser both in San Francisco, California and two grandsons Nicolas Broeking of Louisville, Colorado and Bradley Broeking of Boulder, Colorado.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law Linda and A.F. Kruckeberg, brother and sister-in-law Herbert and Gertrude Kobler, sister and brother-in-law Viola and Wilbert Fries, sister-in-law Margaret Broeking and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ida and Alfred (Mutt) Fluck.

A memorial service will be held at the Zion United Church of Christ in Marion at a later date.
