Charles E. Mitchell of Perryville
Charles E. Mitchell, 96, of Perryville, Missouri, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2020 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 1, 1924 in Marion, Illinois to Roy F. and Lorina (Benline) Mitchell. He and Rosedell Evans were married June 17, 1949. She preceded him in death on May 10, 1999.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Charles was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of Christ The Savior Catholic Church; #1361 Carpenters Union in Chester, Illinois; American Legion Post 133 in Perryville; and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4282 in Perryville and the Knights of Columbus Council 3790 in Chester.
He taught carpentry for five years at Belleville Area College.
Charles is survived by his five sons, Robert (Cydne) Mitchell of Niceville, Florida, David Mitchell of Perryville, Michael (Debbie) Mitchell of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Larry (Sharon) Mitchell of Chester and Leroy Mitchell of Perryville; 25 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one daughter, MaryAnn Mitchell.
Family visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at Ford & Young Chapel in Perryville. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., with Deacon Joe Brindley officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chester, with military graveside honors by VFW Post 4282.
Memorial contributions may be given to Christ The Savior Catholic Church in Brewer or St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church in Perryville.
