William Laverne Field of Carrier Mills
William Laverne Field, age 95, resident of Carrier Mills, passed away peacefully at 6:50 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021 at SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
He was born in Carrier Mills on June 24, 1926 to the late Raymond Field and Martha Tanner Field.
Laverne married the former Edna Ruth Thompson on Dec. 30, 1946 and she survives.
He was a World War II Navy veteran, retired coal miner, a member of the Carrier Mills Masonic Lodge No. 458, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Egyptian Shrine.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Ruth Field; sons, Keith (Mary Jane) Field of Du Quoin and Dr. Ted Field of Orange, California; grandchildren, Tami (Bart) Carson, Keri (Michael) Brown, JaLyn (Dr. Michael) Morris and Julia Field; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Sue) Field of Harrisburg; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Laverne was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert E. "Bob" Field and Charles R. "Dude" Field; and sisters, Betty Renshaw, Darlene Stovall and Patsy Wasson.
Private graveside services will precede inurnment at the Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Aaron Allen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the preferred choice of remembrance would be memorials to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 4400 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.
