Leland P. Banks of Tunnel Hill

Leland P. Banks, 73, and a resident of rural Tunnel Hill, passed away unexpectedly at 7:14 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

Leland was born Nov. 14, 1945 in Pontiac, Michigan. He was the eldest of four sons born to Ralph Banks and Pauline (Drumm) Banks.

On Nov. 20, 2001, Leland was united in marriage to Debra J. (Deaton) in Paducah, Kentucky. She survives.

In addition to his wife, Leland is survived by his mother, Pauline Banks of rural Harrisburg; four daughters, Lori (Matt) Bradley of Creve Coeur, Missouri, Kristin (Blake) Wilson of Harrisburg, and Rachel (Adam) Anderson and Ashley (Luke) Schultz, both of Eldorado; grandchildren Ian, Collin and Kaden Bradley, Olivia, Grant and Ava Wilson, Cale Anderson, and Bowen and Landry Schultz; and three brothers, David (Linda) Banks and Terry Banks, both of Karber's Ridge, and Richard Banks of Phoenix.

Leland was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Banks.

Leland was a 1963 graduate of Harrisburg High School. He attended the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, graduating in 1968.

In 1970, Leland began working at Hearn's Pharmacy in Carrier Mills. He purchased the pharmacy in 1980 and changed the name of the business to Banks Pharmacy. Leland continued to operate the business until his retirement.

Leland was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and was a skilled woodworker. Leland was a Diamond Life Sponsor of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. A private graveside service will be conducted.
