Marshall Gene Coffel

Marshall Gene 'Butch' Coffel, 68, of DeSoto, passed away at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the VA Medical Center Hospice Center in Marion, Ill. with his close friend Mary Katherine Hagler at his side.

Butch had attended Du Quoin High School and played High School football. He then went into the United States Navy and retired after 25 years of service to his country. He had retired from SIU. Butch loved to fish and hunt and work in his mother's garden He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and was a Christian. He was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Du Quoin. He was always there to help anyone who needed help. The family of Marshall Coffel would like to thank the VA Medical Center Hospice Center.

He was born Sept. 19, 1945 at Du Quoin, Ill., the son of Claude Norman and Mildred D. (Barnes) Coffel.

He is survived by his mother of Du Quoin, one daughter - Candace Womack of Florida, one step daughter - Wendy Dunn White of Elkville and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and his wife - Marsha Dunn Coffel.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Lon McPherson and Rev. Gayland Holden officiating.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Monday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W. and American Legion and the U.S. Navy.

Friends may make memorials to Butch's mother and will be accepted at the funeral home.
