Retired teachers welcome Chester students, staff back to school

Chester retired teachers weren't going to let a pandemic stop them from welcoming students, teachers, staff, bus drivers and parents to a new school year - even though none of them actually went to school last week.

Students in Chester Unit 139 have started the school year remotely, but a tradition is a tradition.

The retired teachers displayed the welcome banner all last week and some got together each morning in front of Norma and Ron Baughman's home to wave and welcome all to a new school year.

The retired group supports the efforts of administration and teachers to keep the students learning and safe during these difficult times.
