CHS girls golf: Lady Jackets improve to 6-1 with wins over Marissa, Trico, Sparta, Steeleville

After a wet start to the week and the cancellation of a match on Aug. 23 at Trico, the Lady Jackets Golf Team rebounded to win back-to-back matches to improve to 6-1 for the early season.

<b>Ladies win at CCC<.b>

Chester hosted Marissa and Trico Aug. 24 on a hot, muggy afternoon at the Chester Country Club. The Jackets led all competition with 204 strokes. Trico had 207 strokes, and Marissa had 283.

The Jackets were led by sophomore Camryn Luthy who also earned medalist honors for the third match in a row with a score of 42. Aubrie Medford was runner-up with 46 strokes.

Jazzi Merideth finished third (55) followed by Rylie Conley (61) and Rylie McDonough (67). With the win Chester improved to 4-1 for the season.

Trico was led by Autumn Kennedy who shot 47 for the nine-hole match. She was followed by Julia Reiman (51), Ella Bernaix (54), Ellyce Blaizer (55), Saylor Griffiths (55) and Kayla Knott (59).

Marissa's Josie Stephens was the top Lady Meteor with a score of 56. Teammates Olivia Parker (68), Becca Root (79), and Olivia Krantz (80) rounded out the team scoring.

<b>CHS wins two more</b>

On Aug. 26 the Lady Jackets hosted another triangular match at the Chester Country Club with Sparta and Steeleville. CHS came out on top to improve to 6-1 for the season. Par for the match was 36.

Camryn Luthy won her 4th medalist honor with her game of 43 strokes. Aubrie Medford finished second for CHS with 50. Rylie Conley, Rylie McDonough and Jazzi Merideth finished with scores of 58, 59, and 60 respectively. Chester had a team score of 210 to win the match and improve to 6-1.

CHS Head Coach, Meg Schnoeker said, "I am beyond proud of the girls and how hard they have been working. I had two girls, Rylie Conley (58) and Rylie McDonough (59) shoot their best scores of the year at this match. They broke 60 for the first time. We have a great team record of 6-1 and are motivated to continue improving as the season progresses!"

Sparta was led by Makayla McCready who shot 53. Kylie McDaniel turned in a score of 63 and Abby Zweigart shot 70. Emma Carpenter did not finish.

Steeleville's Shelby Barker had a score of 67 for the nine holes. She improved two strokes over her score at Chester on Aug. 17, when she shot a 69.

<i>The Lady Jackets return to action on Aug. 31 at White Oaks Country Club at Marissa; Sept. 1 at Nashville Municipal Golf Course; and Sept. 3 at the Lady Panther Invitational in Pinckneyville.</i>
