CHS boys golf: Yellow Jackets place second at conference match, by one stroke
In weeks 6 and 7 the Chester High School golf team won a dual match at home against Red Bud and placing second at the 2021 Cahokia Conference Match. In the process Kaden Freytag, Clayton Andrews and Gage Hasemeyer earned All-Conference honors.
<b>CHS beats Red Bud<.b>
On Sept. 13 the Yellow Jackets hosted the Musketeers from Red Bud in a dual match at the Chester Country Club.
"The boys set a new low score as a team for the season with a 159 to beat Red Bud (226) and improve to 28-21-2 on the year," Head Coach Chris Toledo said.
Kaden Freytag was the medalist shooting a round of 37 (+1), while new PR's were set by Lucas Thompson with a round of 40 (+4), Aidan Blechle, 44 (+8), and Nick Coffey, 71 (+35).
Other scores included Chance Mott, 39 (+3); Luke Miller, 43 (+7); Gage Hasemeyer, 43 (+7); Noah Homan, 49 (+13); Evan Dunning, 51 (+15); and Max Blechle, 57 (+21).
<b>Take 2nd at Cahokia</b>
The Jackets traveled to Governor's Run Golf Course in Carlyle on Sept. 22 to compete in the 2021 Cahokia Conference Match. The result was a one-point loss to Okawville to finish second.
Okawville was the conference champion with a score of 348 for the 18-hole match. Chester was runner-up with a team score of 349 strokes. The Wesclin Warriors finished 3rd with 359 strokes. Sparta placed 4th (394) and Red Bud settled for the 5th place spot with 422 strokes.
"Congratulations Kaden!" Coach Toledo said, referring to Kaden Freytag as the 2021 Cahokia Conference Champion. He finished the day tied for first with a round of 82 (+10), and won the match on the 1st playoff hole.
Teammate Clayton Andrews finished 3rd overall with a round of 84 (+12), and Gage Hasemeyer tied for 7th place with a score of 89 (+17). All three Yellow Jackets earned All-Conference honors with their respective finishes.
Other Yellow Jacket players who contributed to the 2nd place finish included Chance Mott, 94 (+22); Luke Miller, 97 (+25); and Lucas Thompson, 101 (+29). The Jackets will take a record of 31-22-2 into the regional tournament on Sept. 29.
