Mildred 'Millie' L. Layton of Chester

Mildred "Millie" L. Layton, 91, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, 2020 at her residence.

She was born to the late Otto J. and Irene (nee Bueckman) Welge on July 4, 1929 in Chester.

Millie married Lester Tindall on Aug. 13, 1949 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Chester, Illinois; he preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1978. She married Huebert Layton on Nov. 12, 1982; he preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1991.

Millie worked as a loan officer for First National Bank in Chester for 40 years, and then moved to Buena Vista National Bank until her retirement in 1994.

She was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Chester. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Ladies Altar Sodality at church.

Millie is survived by two children, Joan Barnes of Chester and Joel (Dianne) Tindall of Chester; six stepchildren, Gary (Sharon) Layton of Perryville, Missouri, Joyce (Wayne) Hennemann of Perryville, Linda (Larry) Hoffman of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Ronald (Jean) Layton of Marble Hill, Missouri, Diane (Ken) Schumer of Perryville and Vicki (Kent) Wingerter of Perryville; seven grandchildren, Tiffany (Tony) Owens, Jeffrey Draves (Krisann), John Draves (Cheryl), Kayla Barnes, Jessica McCarty (John), Joe (Crystal) Tindall and Jennifer Surman (Josh); 15 step-grandchildren, Scott (Kim) Layton, Chad (Sarah) Layton, Darren Layton (Brooke), Amy (Greg) Kapp, Jim (Sara) Hennemann, Brad (Jessica) Hennemann, Beth (Scott) Carlton, Valerie (Scott) Pierson, Rebecca (Rob) Tesson, Joe (Johanna) Layton, Michael Layton, Craig (Alicia) Schumer, Amber (Jason) Cox, Kayla (Cody) Lauder and Jordin Wingerter; 20 great-grandchildren and 37 step-great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and one step-great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents: first husband Lester Tindall; second husband Huebert Layton; brother-in-law John Allen Tindall; a step-grandchild, Marcia Hoffman; and two nephews, Pat Tindall and Jeff Tindall.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, 2020 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Chester, officiated by the Very Reverend Eugene H. Wojcik, V.F. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Chester.

A private funeral Mass will be held at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, for family only.
