Lady Jacket golf Chester finishes 7th at conference match; Luthy named BDC All Conference
A young Chester Lady Jackets team brought up the rear at the 2020 Black Diamond Conference girls golf tournament last Thursday, but the brightest spot continues to be freshman Camryn Luthy, who made the Top 10 and was named to the All Conference Team.
Luthy shot a 94 (+22) over 18 holes on the notoriously challenging Franklin County Country Club course, to tie for 7th overall and earn herself a spot on the 2020 BDC All-Conference Team.
As a team the Jackets scored 437 to finish seventh among the field of seven Black Diamond Conference teams.
Jazzi Merideth finished second for CHS with 110 strokes, followed by Paige Vasquez (116), Lauren Soellner (117), Aubrie Medford (118) and Samantha Eggemeyer (129).
It was the final conference tournament for senior golfers Eggemeyer and Soellner, while freshmen Luthy and Merideth and sophomores Vasquez and Medford played in their first conference matches. Chester has a very young girls' team.
Zeigler-Royalton-Christopher won the BDC title for the first time in school history with a team score of 352. Runner-up was Trico with a score of 394. Hamilton County and Carmi-White County tied for third place with 407 strokes apiece.
Eldorado finished fifth with 414 strokes and Goreville shot 431 for sixth place.
Individually, Hamilton County's Kylee Vaughn was the 2020 BDC champion/medalist with her low score of 78 (+6). A senior, Vaughn has won the title all four years.
The ZRC Tornadoes placed four golfers among the Top 6: Savanah Saeger (2nd, 84), Chelsea Young (4th, 88), Allie Anderson (5th, 89), and Addisyn Calloni (6th, 91). Trico's Kylie Bunselmeyer finished third with 87 strokes.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Chester's Luthy and Macy Heil of Carmi-White County, who tied for 7th with 94 shots apiece; Katlyn Deig of Carmi-White County (9th, 95), and Megan Wettig of Trico and Adrienne Poole of Eldorado, who tied for 10th at 97 strokes apiece.
Chester vs. Trico
Chester fell to Trico and dropped to 12-7 for the season on Sept. 21, when the Lady Jackets hosted the Trico Pioneers at the Chester Country Club. It as a close match, but the Jackets eventually lost, 193-208.
Camryn Luthy shot 40, a new personal best, and won medalist honors for the seventh time this season. Maleia Absher set a new PR as well by shooting 51 (+15) which was 10 strokes better than her previous best score of 61.
Lauren Soellner, Kailyn Absher and Jazzi Merideth were just one stroke apart as Soellner shot 56 (+20), Absher shot 55 (+19), and Merideth shot 57 (+21). Aubrie Medford had 60 strokes (+24) and Paige Vasquez shot 63 (+27). JV players Sam Eggemeyer and Rylie McDonough shot 52 and 68 respectively.
Trico was led by Kylie Bunselmeyer who shot 40, followed by Kaylee Bunselmeyer (45), Megan Wettig (47), Kayla Knott (57), Ellyce Blazier (58) and Reiman (60).
CHS tops Warriors
The Lady Jackets escaped with a narrow victory over the Steeleville Lady Warriors on Sept. 22 at the Chester Country Club. The Jackets shot 212 as a team, three shots better than Steeleville.
In the win, Camryn Luthy and Paige Vasquez each shot 51 to pace the Jackets. Jazzi Merideth and Kailyn Absher each shot 55. Samantha Eggemeyer recorded a 56 and Lauren Soellner had 59 strokes for the 9-hole match.
In the JV match Aubrie Medford shot 56, Rylie McDonough shot 64 and Maleia Absher shot 65.
Steeleville's Lexi Renner was the medalist for the match with her low score of 42. Jaden Hinnerichs finished fourth for Steeleville with a 57 and Shealyn Conway and Shelby Barker had identical scores of 58.
