Panther standout Dré Scott signs with Kaskaskia College
Panther basketball senior Dré Scott has signed a Letter of Intent to play for the Kaskaskia College Blue Devils in the 2021-22 school year.
A strong leader for Head Coach Bob Waggoner's Panther team that finished 12-3 in this year's COVID-shortened season, Dré captured the attention of many area community college coaches before deciding to join Coach Brian Hancock at Kaskaskia, a junior college in Centralia.
Accumulating a full résumé of awards for the Panthers, Dré was team MVP, the Coaches' Award winner, the team's leading scorer averaging 16.7 points per game and the leading rebounder with 6.4 rebounds per game.
He earned SIRR All-Conference honors for two years, was named to the IBCA All-South and All-Star Games, was an Associated Press All-State Honorable Mention, the Panther Showcase Game MVP in his junior year and won the team "Hard Hat" Award as a sophomore.
A favorite Panther memory was his stickback overtime game-winner against Nashville as a junior to clinch a share of the SIRR Conference Championship. For Panther fans, Dré's breakaway slam dunks brought extra excitement to Thomas Gym, even with limited numbers of fans in 2021.
Also at PCHS, Dré has participated in track in the triple jump and high jump. He was voted Mr. PCHS by his senior Class of 2021.
As he looks forward to Kaskaskia College, Dré is undecided on a major but is leaning toward Social Work with a goal of finding a profession in which he can help people.
He indicated that Kaskaskia felt like the best fit for him, having looked into other junior college and four-year schools which showed interest in him. Coach Hancock said he especially appreciates Dré's work ethic and versatility - the ability to play inside or on the perimeter - as he transitions to JUCO-level play in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference.
At Kaskaskia since 2008, Coach Hancock has an excellent record of preparing players for four-year colleges, a goal that Dré will pursue as well.
