Gold Plate to reopen its doors on Monday, Oct. 4

Gold Plate Senior Center in Du Quoin is opening up to in-person visits and dining on Monday, Oct. 4.

Executive Director Tammy Asbury said that starting Monday the center will be open its usual hours, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Fridays.

Meals are served from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.

Despite the return of in-person dining, Gold Plate will continue to offer meal pickups and deliveries. Asbury said a lot of clients prefer to stay out of the center for now, because they are concerned about the virus, or just don't like having to wear a mask.

The state requires masks to be worn in senior centers at all times, except when a person is actively eating.

"We've already asked a lot of clients, and they say they will continue picking up meals," Asbury said. "They're not running the risk yet, or they don't like wearing their masks at all times. We don't set that rule."

Asbury said there won't be entertainment to start, but the center will offer Bingo and crafts. She said the entertainers aren't quite ready to come back in the wake of the pandemic.

Clients who choose to get meals delivered, will get hot meals each week on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Frozen meals for Wednesdays and Fridays will be delivered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, along with the day's hot meal.
