Ethel Elizabeth Scott Starnes of Carrier Mills

Ethel Elizabeth Scott Starnes, 87, of Carrier Mills, was called home to be with Jesus at 10:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018 at her residence, surrounded by her family singing her favorite song, "He Touched Me."

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time Friday. The Rev. Mark Hiltibidal will officiate. Cremation will follow and burial will be at a later date in Floyd, Virginia.

She was born on June 20, 1931 in Browns Mills, New Jersey to the late Oliver and Alice (Ford) Sager. She married John Garnet Scott Sr. and he preceded her in death. She later married Robert Starnes Sr. on Nov. 20, 1990 and he survives.

Ethel loved to fish and the outdoors as well as taking care of her kids and grandkids. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Raleigh.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Starnes Sr. of Carrier Mills; four children, Walter Scott of Piedmont, South Carolina, John Scott Jr., Elouise Chase of Pennsylvania and James Scott of Easley, South Carolina; three stepchildren, Annetta Pate of Marysville, Washington, Robert Starnes Jr. of Harrisburg and Robin Haney of Harrisburg; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Scott Sr; son Wyatt Scott and daughter Lavena Gschwandter.

Ethel was a woman of great strength and faith in Jesus. All those who knew her were blessed. She is our loss but Heaven's gain.
