Arthur Anthony 'Bo' Brown, of Shawneetown
Arthur Anthony "Bo" Brown, age 75 of Shawneetown, passed this life Jan. 31, 2018 after an extended illness, surrounded by his family in Harrisburg Medical Center.
A graveside service with military rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018. Those attending should meet at the Elmwood Cemetery in Equality.
Bo, as most knew him, was born in Bessemer, Alabama on Sept. 1, 1942 to the late Philip and Lottie (Lyles) Brown. He graduated high school in Alabama in 1960 and went to the Army where he served his country proudly in the 101st Airborne for three years.
In 1962 he married Bonnie Jean (Emery) who preceded him in death in 1996. In 2002 he married Deborah (Fals) Brown who survives.
Bo worked most of his life in the coal mines, from Peabody to Island Creek and retiring from Kerr-McGee. He had also worked for the city of Shawneetown for many years and ran a welding shop at his home. He loved to socialize and ride his motorcycle; his real love was boating, and he spent many hours on the Ohio River.
He was a member of the Shawneetown American Legion, the Eldorado VFW, the UMWA, the Equality #2 Masonic Lodge, and was a Shriner. He was always fun to be around and will be missed by many.
He survived by his wife, Deborah Brown of Shawneetown; his children, Michael (Julie) Brown of Dale; John (Stanya) Cox of Shawneetown; Shelly (Doug Forrest) Cox of Shawneetown; Liz (Michael) Patrick of Mount Vernon, Indiana; 10 grandchildren, Jeradon, Peyton, Christa, Bryanna, Kaitlyn, Raleigh, Anthony, Emma, Lily and Logan; one great-grandchild, Ryleigh Layne; his sister, Gail (Jack) Massey of Bessemer, Alabama; a nephew, Bob Brunson; and niece, Robin Brunson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Bonnie, and a stillborn son, Mark Anthony.
Visitation for Bo was held from 1 to 3:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown. Masonic rites were accorded at the funeral home by the Equality Masonic Lodge.
