CHS girls golf: Lady Jackets go 3-2 in Week 5 to improve to 12-6

The Lady Jackets played three matches in four days Sept. 14-17, all on the road.

<b>CHS beats Steeleville</b>

The Lady Jackets beat Steeleville but lost to Nashville and Trico on Sept. 14 at Pyramid Oaks. They placed third in a quadrangle match between the winner, Trico; second-place finisher Nashville and fourth place finisher Steeleville.

Camryn Luthy paced the Jackets with a 49 (+13) and junior Kailyn Absher set her second personal best of the season, shooting 57 (+21)."

Paige Vasquez and Jazzi Meredith both shot 62s; Lauren Soellner shot 63; Aubrie Medford had 65.

Trico's Kylie Bunselmeyer and Megan Wettig shared medalist honors with their identical rounds of 42.

Steeleville was led by Lexi Render who shot 54. She was followed by Jaden Hennrich (60), Shenla Conway (61) and Shelby Baker (63).

"Our girls traveled today to Pyramid Oaks Country Club and came home not too happy," said Assistant Coach Paul Zemlyn said. "Pyramid Oaks is known for small greens and tree-lined fairways. It is a tough course."

"Chester has a very young ladies team," he added. "They show improvement every week and they work hard in practice. They just need seasoning and they will be very good down the road."

<b>CHS vs. Red Bud</b>

The CHS girls picked up a close win Sept. 16 at North County Country Club in Red Bud, with a score of 219 to 221.

Camryn Luthy was Chester's leader with a score of 49. Aubrie Medford achieved her second personal best of the season (54), improving her previous PR by five strokes.

Other contributors included Lauren Soellner 57 (+22), and Kailyn Absher, Jazzi Meredith, and Paige Vasquez each with identical scores of 59.

<b>CHS vs. Sparta</b>

The Chester girls shot a team-best 199 on Sept. 17 to beat Sparta, 199-210.

Lady Jacket Head Coach Ben Hunter said Luthy shot a round of 43 (+8) to collect her 6th medalist honor of the season.

Jazzi Meredith 51 (+16), Lauren Soellner 52 (+17), Kailyn Absher 54 (+19), and Rylie McDonough 65 (+30) all set new personal-best games.

"Good shooting today girls, and congratulations on achieving a new best team score and finally breaking 200 as a team," Hunter added.

Other CHS players included Paige Vasquez 52 (+17) and Aubrie Medford 55 (+20). Maleia Absher shot 62 (+27) on the JV.
