JCHCE celebrates 75th anniversary

The Jackson County Home and Community Education Association celebrated its 75th anniversary at its annual meeting July 15. Members enjoyed a meal at the Murphysboro Knights of Columbus Hall.

A full business meeting was held with the last two years of business for the organization.

Certificates for 25 years of service were issued to Emma Blair, Tonya Burke and Jane Harris. A 40-year membership certificate was issued to Sharon Strothman. Fifty-year pins were awarded to Jane McLaughlin and Sylvia Frank. Members with more than 60 years were given awards, and they were Jeanine Gale, Virginia Lewis, Mary Nell Chew and Jackie Allen. A memorial candle lighting ceremony was held to honor members who passed during these past two years. These members were Diane Garoian, Candace Gillooly, Linda Clutts, Lawanda Fager, Gladys Crawshaw and Coralee Lawder. New officers installed were Luann Ostrom as president, Jean Conrod as first vice president, Mary Reiman as second vice president, Wilma Nelson as treasurer, Brenda Jones as secretary, Kendra Evans to ways and means, and Lyn Christy as CVH chairperson. Additional members at large also installed to assist the board were Becky McIntosh, Lynn Pierson, Dianna Freebern and Joyce Evans.
