Raymond 'Sonnie' Waldron, formerly of Marion

Raymond "Sonnie" Waldron passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, at his daughter's home in Florida with his family.

Sonnie was born on Aug. 15, 1938, in Cambria, Illinois to Raymond & Mary Waldron. He married Lynda Pemberton on April 17, 1959.

Sonnie and Lynda retired in 2001 from P&S Grain Co. in Marion. They co-owned the family business with sister-in-law and brother-in-law Janis and Leon Billingsley. The family business provided many years of fun and laughs with all the farming and animal husbandry adventures. Many friends were made, leading to lifelong treasured memories.

He was a member of Third Baptist Church of Marion, Fellowship Lodge 89 AF & AM in Marion, and he was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Noble of the Ainid Temple in East St. Louis, Illinois.

Upon retirement Sonnie and Lynda enjoyed years of ballroom dancing and were avid golfers. They eventually moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida and enjoyed the sun and fun.

From his early adult years Sonnie had a gift for finding the spot with the best coffee and friends. A few of those include P&S Grain, Pulleys BBQ, Goreville Sale Barn, the Carterville Golf Course, Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge #1641 and most recently the Wellesley Court Coffee Club where they solved the world's problems.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynda; daughter and son-in-law Leslie and Duane Stagner; his grandson, Andrew, whom he was most proud of; his sisters Dorothy Turner and Rose Will of Marion; sister- and brother-in-law Janis and Leon Billingsley; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Sam Waldron.

Due to COVID-19 health concerns, a memorial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Fellowship Lodge 89 AF & AM of Marion, or to the Third Baptist Church of Marion.
