'Credible' bomb threat reported tonight at Du Quoin state police headquarters
The Illinois State Police District 13 is currently dealing with a "credible" bomb threat at its Route 51 headquarters in Du Quoin, according to the Facebook page Southern Illinois Fire Incidents.
The Facebook page also says there is a vehicle at the District 13 headquarters that is surrounded, and that the vehicle has a person inside.
People are asked to avoid that area of Route 51, which is across from the main entrance to the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds.
Du Quoin Police Chief Steve Ingram said briefly at about 5:30 p.m. that Du Quoin police are assisting the state police, but would not offer additional details.
Meanwhile, Du Quoin Mayor Guy Alongi said the cable manufacturer Prysmian Group (formerly Du Quoin Cable) next to state police headquarters has been evacuated as a precaution. it's unclear what time the emergency began, but Alongi said he was notified around 4:30 p.m.
