John A. Giacomo

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ John A. Giacomo, age 91, of Pinckneyville, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 5 a.m. in Herrin Hospital, Herrin.

John was born on September 2, 1917 in Pinckneyville, a son to Joseph C. and Pearl (Carter) Giacomo. On April 12, 1955, he married Alice Lewis in Pinckneyville, and she survives. John was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, and served in the United States Army. He worked for Zeigler Coal Company as a coal miner for 43 years, was a farmer and a member of the U.M.W.A. John loved farming, hunting, spending time outdoors and spending time with his buddies at Dixie's Cafe. John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

John is survived by his wife: Alice Giacomo of Pinckneyville, two daughters: Connie Welzbacher of New Athens, and Brenda (Murray) Alford of Cambria, one brother: Nelson (Harriet) Giacomo of Pinckneyville, one sister: Dorene Lueker of Pinckneyville, two grandchildren: Jordan Alford of Marion, and Isaac Alford of Cambria, and numerous dear nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents, one granddaughter: Brittney Jo Dawdy, one brother: Joe Giacomo, and four sisters: Grace Hubler, Zelma Miller, Wilma Wright and Virginia Higgerson.

Graveside services will be at Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Donor's Choice.
