Jacobs gets big win in 115th District
Republican Paul Jacobs appears to have claimed a substantial victory in the race for the 115th District State House seat.
With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Jacobs claimed 29,732, or 83.1 percent, of the vote. Jacobs is a local optometrist and owner of Von Jakob Vineyards in Alto Pass.
The Democrats fielded no candidate, but two third-party candidates vied for the seat as well. Green Party candidate Randy Auxier, who also made a bid a bid for U.S. Congress in the last election cycle, took just 8.8 percent of the vote. Ian Peak, from Mt. Vernon, ran on the Libertarian ticket and claimed 8.1 percent.
Republican Terri Bryant has served as state representative for the 115th District - including all or part of Jackson, Jefferson, Perry, Washington and Union counties - since her election in 2014. She was on a glide path to election as an Illinois state senator Tuesday night.
Jacobs notably challenged Bryant directly for the seat in the 2018 Republican primary.
Current vote totals may not yet include all ballots cast in this election, and they won't be final until canvassed by elections officials.
