Betty June Brown of Du Quoin
Betty June Brown, 91, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Betty was a homemaker who also worked in broadcasting, delivering the Pinckneyville news for WDQN Radio for many years. he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 50 years.
Betty also had been a member of WMU, and past president of the Pinckneyville School PTA. Betty was a high school cheerleader. She had a wonderful sense of humor, and she attended many of the sporting events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She hosted big Fourth of July and Christmas celebrations, feeding many people.
She was born July 18, 1929 at Percy, Illinois, the daughter of Harold and Eula (Wagner) Opp.
She married Frank Leslie Brown on Dec. 26, 1947 at Percy, Illinois and he preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 2009.
She is survived by four children, Peggy Ann (David) Carson of Macon, Illinois, Frank Leslie (Miriel) Brown Jr. of Lenexa, Kansas, Rex Dale (Karen G.) Brown of Tamaroa, and Jaci Lynn (Lee) Wyatt of Naples, Florida, nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Dale Opp; and one sister, Jean Bush.
Graveside services will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021 at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.
Friends may call starting at 1 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday at the cemetery.
Everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask and are asked to use social distancing guidelines.
Friends may make memorials to the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin. which will be accepted at the funeral home.
