Virginia Long of Chester
Virginia M. Long, 90, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021 at Three Springs Lodge Nursing Home in Chester.
She was born to the late Eddie L. and Elsie M. (nee Bendorf) Howie on Aug. 1, 1931 in Ellis Grove, Illinois. Virginia married Glenn Long on April 14, 1951 in Chester; he preceded her in death on Oct. 28, 1964.
She worked in housekeeping at Chester Mental Health Center for 18 years. Virginia was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Chester. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Chester and the Chester Senior Center. Virginia enjoyed crocheting, reading and doing word puzzles.
She is survived by three sons, Glenn (Mary) Long, Tommy Long and Johnny Long, all of Chester; granddaughter, Shelby (Jordan) Wetzel; and one great-grandson, Kade Wetzel.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Phyllis Ann Long; and one brother, Harold Howie.
The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021 at Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester. The Rev. Phillip Keeton will officiate. Interment will follow at Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, at Pechacek Funeral Homes, Chester.
Masks are required when entering the funeral home.
