Rev. Charles L. “C.L.” McKinnies of Du Quoin
Rev. Charles L. "C.L." McKinnies, 92, of Du Quoin, passed away at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
C.L. was ordained in 1961 as a United Pentecostal preacher, and served for 42 years as pastor of the United Pentecostal Church in Du Quoin. He was a United States Navy veteran.
He was born Jan. 14, 1929 at Carbondale, Illinois, the son of Floyd and Lucille (Tippy) McKinnies.
He married Wilma D. Cobb on Nov. 24, 1945 at Carbondale, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 21, 2013. He married Brenda Taylor on Nov. 25, 2015 at Du Quoin, and she preceded him in death in June 2017.
He is survived by four children, Dan (Karla) McKinnies, LaVonna Kerley, Chuck (Merla) McKinnies and David (Angie) McKinnies, all of Du Quoin; one daughter-in-law, Marsha McKinnies of Du Quoin; one son-in-law, Ed Hughes of Du Quoin; one sister, Darla Rouleau of Flint, Michigan; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; one son, John McKinnies; one daughter, Connie Hughes; and two brothers, Robert McKinnies and Bill McKinnies.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021 at the United Pentecostal Church in Du Quoin with Rev. Dan McKinnies officiating.
Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021 at the church, and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to the time of service, also at the church. Guests are asked to use social distancing guidelines, and everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.
Friends are invited to make memorials to the United Pentecostal Church Building Fund, and they will be accepted at the funeral home. Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin is in charge of arrangements.
