Local egg hunts supply fun for area kids

MARION - In between rainy, cold days, Saturday's sunshine made it possible for local kids to enjoy Easter activities in Marion.

At Zion United Church of Christ, at least 30 kids gathered for the church's annual egg hunt and activities.

"We've been doing it ever since I came here 14 years ago," said Pastor John Holst. "I'm sure they had it before, too."

Along with an egg hunt, were games, treats, and story time.

The Easter Bunny even put in an appearance, portrayed this year by 14-year-old Gwendolyn Weaver.

About 100 kids converged on Jones Park where a group of volunteers worked to put on an egg hunt with other activities including food, games, a photo shoot, face painting by Marion High School art students, and even an appearance by Gary the Therapy Dog from the Marion Police Department.

"We had a great event," said Beverly Daniel-Stewart, one of the organizers of the event. "Even the adults had fun."
