Augusta Louisa Thomas
Augusta Louisa "Gussie" Thomas, age 98, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at 1:30 a.m. in Friendship Manor, Nashville, Ill.
Augusta was born on March 1, 1914 in Pinckneyville, Ill., a daughter of Ferdinand and Estella M. (Mandy) Thornton. On Nov. 21, 1936, she married Wilfred E. Thomas in Eldorado, Ill. and he preceded her in death on November 6, 1983. Augusta was a member of the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. and was involved in church activities including helping prepare and serve funeral luncheons. She worked as a secretary for the Perry County Sheriff's Department, Perry County Treasurer's Office, Pinckneyville Home Lumber and retired from Taylor Brothers Welding Service in Tamaroa, Ill. in 1983. Augusta loved sewing, embroidery, was an excellent cook and dearly loved caring for her family.
Augusta is survived by three children, Nadine Craig, Rogers (Rosalie) Thomas and Kay (Jim) Bigham all of Pinckneyville, Ill. six grandchildren, Judy (David) Kopshever, Barbara (Robert) Templeton, Nancy (Mike) Cheek, Cheri (Doug) Tabing, Stephen (Lara) Thomas and Susan Maxey; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one step sister, Deanna (Bob) Anderson of Washington, Ill., several dear nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Herschel Thornton and Berthel Thornton in infancy; four sisters, Edna Harris, Mabel Livingston, Geraldine McDonnough and Elsie Blair and one son-in-law, Don Craig
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Charles Boling officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill.
Friends may call at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Memorial may be made to the First Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill.
