Vernon J. Ford of Harrisburg
Vernon J. Ford was born Nov. 24, 1931, to Omijean and Alvin Ford. On Feb. 20, 2020, Vernon went home to be with his Lord and Savior.
On July 20, 1974, he married Lorane Drake.
Vernon was a veteran and served his country proudly in the Korean conflict from 1952-1953.
Vernon worked for Harrisburg Unit District 3 for 35 years.
He was also a longtime member of Dorrisville Baptist Church and a man of integrity. His door was always open to anyone wanting to stop by to visit. He always had a story to tell or a song to sing. Vernon was a man many looked to for advice, whether it be family history, spiritual uplifting or just a question about life.
He will be missed by many. Vernon loved to garden and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Omijean and Alvin Ford; a sister, Marjorie Graves; a brother, Glenn Ford; a stepson, Stephen Elam; a grandson, Jacob Evrard; and a and nephew, Scott Womack.
He is survived by two daughters, Nita Linch and Janet (Bill) Evrard; grandchildren, Ricki DeArmon, Nicki Hickey, Bently Linch, Jason Rister, Donnie Denbow, Kyle Evrard (Katie) and Kaci Jo Evrard.
Vernon is also survived by nephews, Keith Turner (Angel), Kevin Turner (Sharon), Mike Womack, John David Feazel (Lisa), Randy Feazel, Mike Ford (Tammy); a great-nephew, Hunter Womack; and two nieces, Kathy Fisher (Paul) and Beth Heptinstall (Patrick); as well as several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at Sunset Garden Cemetery in Harrisburg with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating.
