NubAbility Camp returns to Du Quoin for ninth year

The NubAbility Athletics Foundation will hold its 2021 All Sports Camp July 15-18 in Du Quoin, featuring 18 different sports.

During the four-day event, more than 125 children with limb loss will receive instruction from 60 limb-different coaches. With a camp theme of "Overcomer," this year's event celebrates the courage and confidence children gain when they overcome obstacles to achieve their goals in sports and in life.

The All Sports Camp is expected to bring more than 500 visitors to southern Illinois from 30 different states. Activities will take place at the Du Quoin High School, Du Quoin State Fairgrounds, Du Quoin Swimming Indians Complex, City of Du Quoin Tennis Courts and RedHawk Golf Course.

"Camp is an amazing gift the people of southern Illinois provide to limb-different kids in our hometowns and across the country," said Sam Kuhnert, NubAbility founder and executive director. "It is so exciting to see children transformed by their camp experience each year - and we couldn't do it without the support of our community, both as sponsors and as volunteers."

More than 400 area residents help at camp each year in areas such as security, food prep, merchandise and concession sales, social media, clean up and more.

Volunteers for this year's camp are being recruited now. To register, sign up as a volunteer or make a donation, visit nubability.org, call (618) 357-1394 or email info@nubability.org.
