Anthony Williams to serve as deputy police chief

Anthony Williams will serve as Carbondale's acting chief of police while the city conducts a search for a new chief.

Williams, previously the deputy chief, takes on his new role even as someone else continues with the title of chief of police. That would be Stan Reno, who was hired last week to serve as Carbondale's new city manager.

Reno's employment agreement as city manager stipulates that he continue to serve through this summer as chief of police while the city conducts a nationwide search for his permanent replacement.

"Deputy Chief Williams will assume increased day-to-day responsibilities of the office of the chief of police," according to a news release from the city.

The Carbondale Police Department first hired Williams as a police officer in 2001.
