Forgery investigation leads to family's multiple burglary arrests
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Members of the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Randolph County State's Attorney's Office and Baldwin Police Department initiated a Forgery Investigation from a victim in Ellis Grove who is currently serving in the military in Iraq. The victim allegedly had checks stolen and Forged at Pop-A-Top tavern and Baldwin Casey's Store. The investigation lead to the arrest of Lindsey Turner, age 22 of Ellis Grove for the Forgery at the Baldwin Casey's Store. A juvenile was developed as a suspect in the Pop-A-Top forgery and Baldwin Casey's store Forgery. During an interview with the juvenile suspect is when Police were informed of large numbers of crimes at the Baldwin Casey's Store. A cooperative effort by Members of the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, Randolph County State's Attorney's Office, Baldwin Police Department and Baldwin Casey's Store management lead to a through investigation initiated on July 15, 2008 that resulted in four arrests for Multiple Counts of Burglary on July 30, 2008.
Sharon Cross, age 41, of Baldwin is charged with five counts of Burglary. Sharon Cross was an assistant manager at Baldwin Caseys. David A. Cross Sr., age 46 of Baldwin is charged with four counts of Burglary. David A. Cross Sr. was also charged with Unlawful Financial Exploitation of a Person with a Disability. This charge will be amended to Theft Over $300. David A. Cross Sr. is alleged to have exerted unauthorized control over 1999 Chevrolet Camaro. Cross is alleged to have paid $100 for the Camaro valued at $4000. Police executed at Search Warrant at the Cross residence in Baldwin and seized the car as evidence. David A. Cross Jr, age 18 of Baldwin is charged with three counts of Burglary of the Casey's Store. Lindsey (Cross) Turner is charged with three counts of Burglary of the Casey's Store. Bond was set at $10,000 per defendant. All four posted bond and were released. Sharon Cross is no longer a Casey's employee. Prior to this investigation she was fired on July 10, 2008 from Casey's for Unlawful Delivery/Sell of Alcohol to a Minor. Sharon Cross also has this charge pending against her in Randolph County.
On August 5, 2008 is Bobbi Boyer, age 46 of Granite City was arrested by Granite City Police for three counts of Burglary of the Baldwin Casey's Store. Bond was set at $10,000. Boyer is incarcerated at the Randolph County Jail.
Police allege that Sharon Cross never rang up items, allowed her family members and others to eat food, drink fountain drinks, take candy and food without paying for it. Sharon Cross is alleged to have allowed her family members and juveniles enter the Casey's Store with backpacks and large bags, put merchandise in the bags and leave without paying for the merchandise. Sharon Cross is alleged to have voided out all or part of the merchandise and allow family members and friends to leave with the merchandise. Sharon Cross is alleged to take customers money for merchandise, allow them to leave with the product, void out customers purchases, and keep the money.
Charges are pending against two juveniles that allegedly participated with Lindsey (Cross) Turner in the Forgery and Burglaries. The investigation leading to the arrests was based on hours of Casey's in store video being reviewed. Police allege that at least 60 crimes of either, theft, burglary or forgery are observed on video during work shifts of Sharon Cross.
