victory Friday night.

pounding of Elverado-Trico at Ralph Davison Field.
"We had a real good week of practice, and we played just like we practiced,"
Johnston City <span id="lw_1221288177_4" class="yshortcuts">first-year head coach</span> Brian Beery said. "The kids played extra
hard even though they got out to the big lead. They never let up."
The Indians averaged nearly 9 yards per carry, rushing the ball 22 times for
197 yards. Colton Johnson led the ground attack with 62 yards on five
carries, including a pair of touchdowns. Pogue rushed for 36 yards on three
totes and Solomon gained 31 yards on three rushes.
Johson's first TD run covered 20 yards with 6:03 remaining in the first
quarter as Johnston City led 14-0 following one of Justin Morneweg's seven
extra-point kicks.
Dustin Solomon found the end zone next for the Indians when he picked off an
Elverado pass and returned it 18 yards for the score.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Falcons fumbled the ball and it was recovered by
Aston McIntosh. That set up a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Josh
Jones to wideout Jake Hewlett on the first play following the turnover.
It appeared as though Elverado would get on the scoreboard when running back
Teagan Armstrong sprinted around the left end for a 79-yard touchdown. But
the play was nullified because of an illegal motion penalty as Johnston City
led 28-0 after 12 minutes.
"The kids are starting to grow and get a little more comfortable with the
offense and defense," Beery said. "Tonight our defensive line really did the
basic check-offs to contain their offense."
The Indians began the second quarter with another turnover as Derek Solomon
intercepted a pass that set up McIntosh's 53-yard touchdown run ‹ his only
carry of the game ‹ that was sprung loose by a block from Jacob Reed around
the left end.
Another Elverado fumble was recovered by Nick Alcorn and, minutes later,
Johnson found paydirt again with a 24-yard TD scamper at the 10:02 mark.
Johnston City's final score of the first half was a 2-yard touchdown pass
from Jones to McIntosh to make it 49-0 at halftime. Jones completed 4 of 6
passes for 41 yards and two TDs.
The Indians added two more scores in the third quarter when Taylor Kirkman
returned an interception 55 yards for a TD and then McIntosh added a 57-yard
<span id="lw_1221288177_5" class="yshortcuts" style="border-bottom: 1px dashed rgb(0, 102, 204); cursor: pointer;">punt return</span> for a touchdown.
Johnston City's defense allowed just 42 yards of total offense, including
one rushing yard on 25 carries.
