Herrin Outlasts Du Quoin Sophomores
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin High School's Junior Varsity Football team dropped its second consecutive game Monday night, but didn't go down without a fight.
The young Indians, 1-2, lost 30-14 against Herrin at Van Metre Field in a contest much closer than the final score indicates.
Next Monday, Du Quoin visits Chester.
After falling behind 16-0 shortly before halftime, Du Quoin pulled to within 16-8 on a 5-yard TD run by Jerrill Holmes. Trent Bigham then connected with Sam Kuhnert on the two-point conversion play.
Herrin regained its 16-point edge, but Du Quoin struck again with six minutes left on Bigham's 6-yard pass to freshman Brandon Williams.
The PAT try failed and the Tigers were able to score in the last two minutes, sealing the victory.
Holmes topped Du Quoin 116 yards rushing on 24 carries.
Seth Baxter added 38 yards on the ground.
Bigham completed eight passes for 45 yards,
James Williams (six catches, 37 yards) was the leading receiver.
Defensively, Kenny Kabat paced Du Quoin with nine tackles. Chaz Bland, Storm Clarry and Luchie Porter all recorded six stops.
Trevor Hoffman and J. Williams made six tackles.
Baxter recovered a fumble.
