Rend Lake Suspends Search for New President
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Rend Lake College is suspending its search for a new president until next year.
The college's board of trustees on Monday ruled that 44-year-old Charley Holstein would stay on as interim president as he had done since Mark Kern retired in July.
That's because the full board apparently couldn't agree on a candidate after a search that started in February and has included more than 80 applicants. It is known that the college's board was taking a long, hard look at Du Quoin Community Unit District 300 school superintendent Gary Kelly. It is not known whether Kelly's candidacy was through exploratory recruitment or an application for the position.
The trustees plan to revisit the search early next year and likely re-advertise the position.
Holstein was hired as the college's vice president of student services in January and will continue serving in that role while interim president.
