Elverado School Board Meeting
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Tuesday's Elverado School Board meeting was long, due to accouncements of upcoming events, recent state audits and a discrepancy with Century 21.
State audits over the past weeks showed a miscalculated budget in the 2005-2006 school year which caused the school to over charge $23,452 in their general budget and $30,904 in their transportation budget, which will be paid back. Audits also pointed out a title 1 discrepancy in the 07-08 year of $32,056 to be paid back, however, that amount will be given back in the 08-09 school year.
There was an argument over a budget submission to Century 21, which had been sent in last year and amended earlier this year, which allegedly has misappropriated funds. The director at Century 21 changed the budget claiming that the school had done it inappropriately, and the school claims it did not. If the changes by Century 21 apply, the school will lose $30,000 in funds. There is a general budget hearing set for September 23.
Lisa Bastion filed a letter which was approved by the board for her resignation from the school board. She will remain on the board until a suitable replacement is found. Resumes are being accepted for the seat on the board and has a residency requirement and must be applied for before October 21.
A number of special days and events are scheduled for the schools in the next few months. There will be a Grandparents Day Brunch on Sept. 22 with Open House, Tri-County Teacher Conference on Oct. 10, 'Volley for a Cure' for Breast Cancer Survivors on Oct. 14, Mt. Vernon Conference on Oct. 31 and AED Training on Nov. 20.
The recently revised ISAT scores for the Elverado School District put them back into the top 30% in the state.
A number of new purchases and repairs have been made by the school: a new copier for $2,000, roof leaks, a/c and heating fixes and a new truck for the maintenance man for $4,309. A 65 passenger school bus was also approved for purchase at $66,963 and an additional $1,500 for the camera system inside the new bus.
