Lady Warriors Prepare for Title Showdown
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin (Middle School) set the final stages for an old fashioned softball shootout Monday afternoon, whipping Pinckneyville (Junior High School) 7-1 at Lefty Pyle Field.
The Lady Warriors (19-2) host Nashville at 4 p.m. Tuesday, needing a victory to again share Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) honors with the Junior Hornets.
DMS is 9-2 in league play.
"It ought to be a good game," James said of the Nashville showdown. "The last few games we've hit really well and we have a big game tonight. We've worked extremely hard on our hitting and its starting to show."
Against PJHS, nine different batters contributed safeties in a 12-hit attack.
Leadoff batter Bri Green went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Cassidy Rice doubled twice with two RBI. Kelsey Robinson contributed two hits.
Hadley Marek, Rebekah Maddox, Amanda Williams, Carley Hill and Kate Toler all hit safely.
Rice, 18-2, struck out 11 and gave just one basehit. She walked one.
"Cassidy was again fantastic and we played solid defense behind her," said James.
A win in Tuesday's regular season finale who mark the second consecutive season that DMS softball has reached the 20-win plateau.
