Du Quoin Jayvees Defeat A-J

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Du Quoin High School's Junior Varsity Football team climbed back to the .500 mark Monday night, posting an impressive 21-14 home victory against Anna-Jonesboro.

The young Indians, 2-1 in River-to-River Conference play, host Breese Mater Dei next week. Mater Dei replaces Sparta, which dropped its sophomore program for the season.

Seth Baxter ran for 98 yards and three touchdowns against A-J, filling in for leading rusher Jerrill Holmes (illness). Baxter's first TD came with 3:27 left in the first quarter. He also added the two-point conversion.

Baxter then ran for two more scores-of 1 and 7 runs-during a seven minute span of the third quarter.

Brandon George booted an extra point following the second TD.

Quarterback Trent Bigham added 44 yards rushing and Storm Clarry contributed 35 more.

Clarry (2 catches, 33 yards) and James Williams (1 catch, 12 yards) caught passes from Bigham.

Kenny Kabat and Clarry each recorded 10 stops to pace the defense. Will Alstat (eight tackles), Ethan Nevill and freshman Dylan Pyron (seven stops apiece) weren't far behind. Kabat forced and recovered a fumble.

Bigham also shined with two interceptions, a fumble recovery and six tackles.
