School Board Day proclaimed in Red Bud
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[At the Red Bud City Council meeting Monday, Mayor Ken Mueller proclaimed Saturday, November 15 as School Board Members Day in Red Bud "as a way to honor those citizens who devote so much of their time and energy to the education of our children."
Mueller noted that school board members are "entrusted with the guardianship and wise expenditure of scarce tax dollars…are responsible for the regular monitoring of the district's performance and compliance with state policy…(and) selflessly donate countless hours to public service with no compensation."
Mueller stressed that a citywide burning ordinance is in effect. It allows for burning from sunrise to sunset on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays only.
He also emphasized that attention be paid to budget billing for utilities. "It helps people on fixed incomes," he said. Budget billing is adjusted every six months, Mueller noted, and is "a really good idea in these difficult economic times."
The council amended the city's motor vehicle code to allow more no parking areas at the corner of South Main and West 2nd Street. Mueller broke a four-four tie vote to approve the placement of a stop sign at Oak and 2nd Street.
A maturing certificate of deposit in the amount of $75,000 was reinvested at First State Bank at 2.55 percent, and a park fund CD in the amount of $175,000 was reinvested at North County Savings Bank at 3 percent.
The council accepted a bid on a truck from Weir Ford in the amount of $41,938.82.
A request from Darnelle Brueggemann to have Ratz Memorial Park opened up for the Veterans Day ceremony on November 11 was approved. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Mueller will be the guest speaker at the ceremony.
Also approved was a request from Justine Liefer on behalf of the Beautification Committee to collect at the four way stop on Friday, November 14 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, November 15 from 8 a.m. to noon.
A training request for Ken Langrehr of the city's gas department was approved at a cost of $475 plus travel expenses. Also, Code Enforcement Officer Jeff Mueller was approved to attend a seminar on the 2006 International Residential Building Code December 8-12 in Hoffman Estates, Illinois at a cost of $745.
A tree trimming contract for work at Ratz Memorial Park was entered into with R&N Outdoor Services, not to exceed $775.
In other business, Ordinance 1196 was amended to increase fees for dusk to dawn lighting. Mueller was authorized to sign a gas sales agreement.
