Steeleville passes tax levy

Bill Flowers of New Wave Communications, the village's cable TV provider, was on hand to discuss a planned upgrade to the system. Work is scheduled to begin in early January and be finished by mid-July.
Steeleville's agreement with New Wave is up for renewal this summer.
The board also passed a resolution granting an easement to the telephone company allowing them to put in new fiber cable phone lines.
The annual tax levy ordinance was passed. It calls for expenditures of $84,227 for the 2009 fiscal year, beginning on May 1. It was noted that the tax levy is actually down a little from last year.
The board approved an ordinance calling for Steeleville to participate in a national flood insurance program. They also adopted an identity theft prevention policy.
In other business:
The board made a $200 donation to the Steeleville Chamber of Commerce for Christmas lighting.
A recommendation from the Zoning Board for bulk variance for an area of land for Hallmark Travel was approved.
The annual audit was reviewed and approved.
