Du Quoin Council Hopes to Close Gap on Deficit
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ City Clerk Blaine Bastien commented this morning, "We've tweaked about all we can tweak (on this budget). The budget has no new infrastructure construction," he said.
The burden is taxed by wastewater treatment plant payments, higher health care and utility costs and pay hikes for city employees. The plan calls for major cuts in overtime.
The council also took the following action:
Approved Ordinance 2008-O10-04: An ordinance authorizing the sale of surplus property.
Approved Ordinance 2008-O11-01: An ordinance levying $428,022 in taxes for the purpose of supporting the General Fund, but that levy will be abated at the next meeting.
Approved Ordinance 2008-O11-02: An ordinance levying $62,950 taxes for the purpose of supporting the Du Quoin Library-Public Display.
Approved Ordinance 2008-O11-03: An ordinance amending the current regulations for skateboarding within the city limits of Du Quoin.-Public Display.
Approved Resolution 2008 R11-01: A Council resolution of support for a CDAP Application.
Approved to renew the Amtrak lease agreement for use of the depot for $1-Final Approval
Approved to rescind the condemnation order on the property located at 341 South Walnut Street.
Approved to proceed with the condemnation on the property located at 405 South Walnut Street.
Approve $5,000 necessary to replace/repair the roof of the Amtrak building.
