Talents shine at Christmas

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Christmas season is a time for sharing and a time for giving. The schedule of the 20th annual Christmas on the River event clearly showed that the weekend was about sharing - especially the sharing of talents. Many of the holiday events and displays were made possible because of special talents by people from the Chester community.

Outstanding talents were on display at the RSVP Quilt Show. The many entries shared the talents of local quilters and rewarded their unique skills. A wide variety of talents were displayed at the Arts and Crafts show at the Courthouse and at St. John's Bazaar. Baking and cooking talents were evident at the various cookie sales, luncheons, chicken and dumpling dinner and business Open Houses.

Special musical talents chimed throughout the weekend. The performances by Chester bands in the parade, at the Gazebo Park, the riverfront and the Community Christmas Program were enjoyed by many. Local church and school concerts continue during this holiday season as talents are shared through songs and instruments. The Sunday Community Christmas Program was filled with performances by talented local musicians. Carolers throughout the Holiday Lighted Parade shared talent through song as they entertained in the frosty air.

The Mississippi Valley Art Guild display at the Chester Public Library showcased the outstanding talents of many area artists. The St. Mary's PTO Annual Holiday House Tour showed the celebration and decorating talents of several local residents.

Talents traveled through town in the Holiday Lighted Parade. The creative entries, the seasonal music and the festive lights blended into a delightful display of holiday spirit. Santa and his helpers shared their time and talents throughout the weekend. The excited children loved seeing Santa and visiting him in several places around town.

This year athletic talents were also added to the Christmas event as participants enjoyed the Mistletoe Mile Run and Dasher's Dash.

The Christmas on the River Co-Chairmen, Parade Co-Chairmen, Arts and Crafts Chairman, Community Christmas Program Chairman and all committee members shared their organizing and planning talents to present a weekend full of activities for all ages.

A drive through Chester during this holiday season clearly shows the talents of many residents. So many homes are decorated with colorful lights and creative displays. The Chester Municipal Pool is illuminated with seasonal displays. The streets are lined with holiday decorations. City planters are filled with greenery and lights. Many storefronts are decorated with Christmas displays. All of these lovely holiday displays show the talents of many who are willing to make the community festive for the holidays.

The sharing of time and talents is evident during this holiday season and throughout the year as many generous volunteers donate their time and talents to improve the community. The City of Chester wishes everyone a Happy Holiday Season and encourages all to enjoy this Christmas "through the eyes of a child".
