Jr. High Roundup: Lady Warriors End Regular Season at 17-4

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Honoring 13 eighth grade players prior to tip-off, Du Quoin (Middle School) was dominant in its final home game of the 2008-2009 girls basketball season.

The Lady Warriors, 17-4, blasted Sparta (Middle School) 38-18 to end Junior Southwestern Egyptian Conference (Jr. SWEC) play at 9-2.

Runner-up to Nashville in the loop, DMS begins post season action Saturday in the Class L Region III Regional at Johnston City. They'll face the home team at 3:30 p.m.

Nicole Jackson scored 11 points and Rebekah Maddox added 10 for the Lady Warriors, who led 17-5 by halftime.

Cassidy Rice and Kelsey Robinson each netted four points; Miranda Payne scored three with the trio of Jordan George, Olivia Hooker and Tashi Nelson all netting two points.

In the seventh grade game, DMS defeated Sparta 23-17 as Hailey Stewart (seven) was the top scorer. Abby Myers and Morgan Dennis each scored six.

Du Quoin ends 12-5 and 8-3.

WARRIORS BOYS WIN

DMS remained undefeated in Jr. SWEC varsity play Monday, easily handling Sparta 44-31 on the road.

The Warriors, 10-2 and 7-0, held the host team scoreless in the first quarter and led 35-13 as the fourth quarter began.

"This was our best defensive effort of the year," DMS coach Ryan Heape confirmed.

Nate Boss paced a balanced Warrior attack with 11 points and four steals.

Travis Chapman added seven points with Daulton Beltz and Dalton Donoghue each scoring five.

Deeja Cole pulled down a team high seven rebounds and Haeden Sweetin led with three assists.

In the seventh grade game, Du Quoin (8-3, 4-3) fell 31-30 to Sparta on a last second basket.

Spencer Cook (15 points, seven rebounds) and Camden Youngman (12 points, six rebounds) again paced the young Warriors. Matt Galik had four steals.

"We came out really flat in the first half," Du Quoin coach Jason James said.

" Our effort was there, we just have to be able to come out and execute."

DMS plays rescheduled games at Chester Tuesday night.

Thursday, the Warrior teams host Murphysboro.

JR. PANTHERS RIP CHESTER

Pinckneyville (Junior High School) climbed back to the .500 mark Monday, blitzing Chester (Junior High School) 56-31 at the Hugh Malan Complex.

The Junior Panthers, 9-9, are 3-7 in Jr. SWEC play and idle until next Tuesday's game with Christopher.

Will Timpner scored 12 points and Caleb Howard 10 for PJHS, which led 43-19 after three quarters.

Sage Evers added nine points with the duo of Logan Woods and Christopher Priebe scoring six apiece.

PJHS also won the seventh grade game, 32-25.
