Girls Basketball Roundup: Lady Panthers Roll, Elverado Falls

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Tuning up for Tuesday's River-to-River Conference showdown against Nashville, Pinckneyville Community High School's Girls Basketball team rolled to an easy 55-32 win over Carterville in Thomas Gym Monday night.

The Lady Panthers are 13-6 while Carterville dipped to 4-11.

"For the second straight game we did a nice job of playing four quarters," PCHS coach Alan Engelhardt said. "We missed some shots early, but continued to run and defend well. I thought we did a nice job of sharing the basketball."

Mandi Kellerman (12), Dani Jenkel (11) and Taylor Cicardi (11) all scored in double figures for the Lady Panthers. Maddy Keith and Becky Vanderjack weren't far behind with eight and seven points.

Emily Miller didn't score, but drew praise for defensive work against Carterville star Kelsea Ashton-who was held to just nine points.

LADY FALCONS SEVENTH at CHESTER

The Elverado Lady Falcons rallied from a two-point halftime deficit with an impressive defensive showing in the third to beat the Lady Knights of Agape Christian of Energy 50-28 at the finals of the Chester Lady Jacket Mid Winter Classic Saturday at Daniel Colbert Gym.

Sami Hicks (18) and Lacey Quails (12) combined for 30 points in the winning effort.

Mallory Winthrop tossed in nine and Elisabeth Falter finished with four points. Caitlyn Jones (2), Chelsea Cochran (1), Lacie Tow (3) and Kaylee Gresham (1) also scored for the Lady Falcons.

Hicks was named to the all-tourney team.

Monday night in Piper/Valerius Gym, the Lady Falcons (2-14) lost 61-34 against Marissa-Coulterville.

Winthrop had eight points with Qualls and Hicks adding seven apiece.

M-C built a 37-14 lead by halftime.

Elverado hosts Dongola Tuesday night.

NASHVILLE HANDLES DHS

In a rescheduled game played Saturday afternoon, the host Lady Indians (1-13, 0-5) fell 92-30 against River-to-River Conference leader Nashville.

The visitors ripped the nets for 33 first quarter points and never looked back, leading 78-17 to start the final period.

Freshman guard Jessica Hirsch topped Du Quoin with a game-high 17 points.

Stefanie Gates had three points with no other Lady Indian managing more than two points.

Du Quoin hosts Chester Tuesday night.
