New crossing guard hired for Chester
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Christi Pickett was hired at last Monday's Chester City council meeting to be the new crossing guard for Chester Grade School. Pickett will man the post on Opdyke St in the mornings and afternoons Monday through Friday.
The city council approved the materials that will be provided to help students from the Chester School district build new roofs on the dugouts at the Cohen Field. The School District will also provide the insurance and transportation to an from.
Approval was made to hire part-time employees Carlo Marconi, Dakota Crawford, Melissa Lyons, Dustin Aubuchon and Dezirae Phillips to fill the vacancies at Chester Skateland.
Jeff Hammel was approved by the council to be reinstated as a firefighter as recommended by Fire Chief Mike Lochhead.
Red Dot Construction of Chester won the bid of $182,841.10 for construction that will be done on Pump Station #5.
The council adopted a Property Code Maintenance Ordinance for the city which included the approved recommendation by the code enforcement officer Marty Yallaly, to change dangerous/abandoned properties to be covered under the new ordinance.
Approval was made to allow residents the opportunity to be able to purchase a tag for large bulk item pick-ups by the trash contractor CWI.
City council approved the revised police manual.
The discussion to make repairs the masonry archway located Washington Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard was tabled for next months meeting.
Approval was made to a Vendor Agreement with Western Egyptian for the Low Income Energy Assistant Program.
$38,000 was approved by the city for the purchase of a large dump truck for Street, Water and Gas Departments.
Jerry Bonifield was approved by council per the recommendations of the Zoning Board of Appeals, to build on his property located at 207 West Harrison Street.
The council approved the amendment changes made to the Engineering Agreement for Pump Station #5. Changes were made to increase the contractual amount of the original agreement.
Finally, an approval was made tenant farmer, Richard Mueller to plant fall crops on the city's property located by the Cohen Fields.
