Maintenance continues in Sparta schools

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Sparta District 140 Board of Education heard Monday that work projects

at the district schools are progressing, including the roof replacement at

the Fulton Gym.

The gym floor has been delivered and installation is expected to start soon.

The lobby floor has been installed. The chair seats have been installed and

the window installation work is approximately 95 percent complete. Work on

the women's restroom in the lobby has started.

The fire alarm system has been installed Primary Attendance Center. The gym

floor at Lincoln Middle School has been recoated, and a new waterline has

been installed for the softball field. The pad for the visitors' bleachers

has been poured and the seating will be ready for the first home game.

The road between the high school gym and the football field may have to be

closed during school so concrete can be poured and the remainder of the

parking lot finished.

The board approved the purchase of a 2007 E-150 van from Sparta Ford at a

cost of $18,604.95. The district also approved having Sparta CUSD #140

painted on the sides of both of the district's vans. The work will be done

by Fantastic Finishes at a cost of $100 per van.

Bids for a new lawn mover were presented but action on the matter was

tabled.

The board also dealt with a number of personnel matters. The resignation of

Jennifer DeMond, a teacher at Primary Attendance Center was accepted.

Kathryn Barczewski was hired as a Title I reading teacher at Primary and

Evansville Attendance Centers, and David Page was employed as a part-time

physical education teacher at Evansville.

Lynda Hess was approved as Head Teacher at Primary Attendance Center.

The board entered into an agreement with the Sparta Education Association

regarding the employment of Pam Runyon.

Brandi Brockmeyer was recalled as a full-time paraprofessional for the

district, and Joyce Hayer was recalled as a part-time paraprofessional.

Emarus Wolters and Erica Asselmeier were employed as AVID tutors at the high

school for four hours per day for two days per week at $10 per hour for the

current school year.

Jim Watt was approved as Athletic Director for Lincoln Middle School, and

Heather Melton was named assistant girls' basketball coach there. The Art

Contest Sponsor for Lincoln will be Vicki Brown.

The extra-curricular recommendations for Sparta High School and the

Evansville and Tilden Attendance Centers were accepted as presented.

The board's next meeting will be held at Primary Attendance Center at 7 p.m.

on Monday, Sept. 15.
