DMS Baseball Warriors Waltz to Opening Win
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ The runs came in bunches for Du Quoin (Middle School) in its boys baseball
opening game Monday afternoon at the <span id="lw_1219179599_0" class="yshortcuts">Benton City Park</span>.
DMS ripped host Benton (Middle School) 11-0 in six innings as Nate Boss and
Brendan Fred combined to pitch a three-hitter.
Thursday, the Warriors visit Chester (Middle School).
"We had a good all-around effort," <span id="lw_1219179599_1" class="yshortcuts">Du Quoin coach Tim Craft</span> confirmed. "Our
hitters had a good approach at the plate. And our pitchers gave us a lot of
strikes. They were able to get ahead of most of the hitters."
In the <span id="lw_1219179599_2" class="yshortcuts" style="border-bottom: 1px dashed rgb(0, 102, 204); cursor: pointer;">first inning</span>, Boss provided all the run support he and Fred would
need.
A two-RBI double sent Shayne Baxter and Fred home for a quick 2-0 lead.
In the second, Boss tripled home another run with Austin Mansker adding an
RBI double. Mansker also singled home two more runs in the third. Baxter and
Boss each had three hits and three RBI.
Mansker and <span id="lw_1219179599_3" class="yshortcuts" style="border-bottom: 1px dashed rgb(0, 102, 204); cursor: pointer;">Travis Chapman</span> added two hits apiece, Jonah Spencer (two RBI)
and <span id="lw_1219179599_4" class="yshortcuts">John Erwin</span> also hit safely.
Boss (1-0) struck out eight in four innings. Fred finished up with a pair of
strikeouts.
