George Robert Tilley of Du Quoin

George Robert Tilley, 83, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4:52 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2022 at his residence.

George had retired from the U.S. Army. He was a Vietnam War veteran and served from 1958 until 1979. George owned and operated Tilley's Used Appliances from 1992 until 2018. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was born Jan. 15, 1939 in Du Quoin, Illinois, the son of Charles T. and Mary L. (Gilliam) Tilley. He married Donna Harper and she preceded him in death on May 28, 2016. He then married Jessica Kay Johnson on Nov. 27, 2021 in Du Quoin and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; four children, Brian Tilley of Indianapolis, Indiana, Georgette Tilley of Pinckneyville, Illinois, Judy Tilley of Summersville, South Carolina, and George Tilley Jr. of Florida; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; two brothers, John Tilley and Ted Tilley; and three sisters, Barbara Alvis, Frieda Longshore and Debbie Zorn.

Per George's request, cremation rites were accorded. There will be no public visitation or funeral service.
