Candy Anne Davis of Elizabethtown
Candy Anne Davis, 75, of Elizabethtown, Illinois, passed away at Hardin County General Hospital on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.
Candy was born in Anna, Illinois on April 1, 1947, to William Warren Stokes Sr. and Margaret Eunice (Freeland) Stokes. She was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church.
Candy graduated from Rosiclare High School in 1965. Soon after graduation, she worked as a telephone operator in Marion, Illinois. In fact, she once spoke with George Harrison as she connected his call to his sister in Benton, Illinois.
Later in life, she worked in various capacities at Hardin County General Hospital. She began as a certified nursing assistant. She found this to be most rewarding as she helped others. Candy also worked as a lab secretary. She thoroughly enjoyed working with her lab coworkers. Candy finished her career at the hospital in the business office.
Candy loved her home that she shared with the love of her life, Bob Davis. She enjoyed gardening and caring for her dogs, cats, chickens and guineas. Candy excelled in cooking and sewing as well. Fishing was another of her pastimes. She was happiest when surrounded by family.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Davis; three children, Tim (Jennifer) Humphrey of Pleasant Plains, Illinois, Rob Humphrey of Murphysboro, Illinois, and Joanne (Angie) Humphrey of Belton, Kentucky; a stepdaughter, Shelly (Joe) Cole of Benton, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Josh Betts of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Garrett (Madison) Betts of Maysville, North Carolina, Larissa Musselman of Champaign, Illinois, Cheyenne Humphrey of Pleasant Plains, Illinois, Nathaniel Cole of Eddyville, Kentucky, Andrew Cole of Benton, Kentucky, and Matthew Cole of Benton, Kentucky; three siblings, Penny Conn of Elizabethtown, Illinois, Warrena (Larry) Barnard of Slaughters, Kentucky and Janice (Richard) Reed of Elizabethtown, Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Marita (Bud) Stokes of Kankakee, Illinois.
Candy was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and "Peg" Stokes and a brother, William Warren "Bud" Stokes.
