Du Quoin Police Cool Down the Town

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ This year marks the second annual Free Fan Program by the Du Quoin Police Department. The fans are intended to aid families who cannot afford fans or air conditioning to avoid heat stroke and other heat related injuries.

Twenty fans have been purchased to far for donation, but if popularity measures up to the previous year twenty to thirty more will need to be bought. The money for the fans came from the Police Calendar Program which successfully brought in over $4,000. Last year the local Eagle's Lodge also helped to donate for the Free Fan Program.

Anyone qualifies for a fan and need only to come to the Du Quoin Police station and sign in. Receivers of fans last year are asked to wait until fans can be distributed to those who have not yet received one.

The Police Calendar Program also helped in funding the department scholarships, in the name of the late police chief Jim Booker and the late fire chief Richard Fronek, and the Shop with a Cop Program, along with community donations.
