Lady Falcons Edge Net Rival
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ In nail-biting fashion, Elverado High School's Girls Volleyball team posted a three-game win over one of its biggest rivals Thursday night.
The Lady Falcons defeated Christopher 21-25, 25-20 and 25-20, splitting two Black Diamond Conference matches to open the season.
EHS (1-1) hosts Carterville Tuesday.
"A big win for us," Lady Falcons coach Donette Wheatley said. "We made some excellen hustle plays and I very proud of the girls effort."
Mallory Winthrop and Hanna Scott each scored 11 points at the serving line. Julia Bost (nine) and Jennifer Yates (eight) were close behind.
As a team, EHS went 61-for-70. Winthrop notched five aces.
Bost was perfect in 44 set tries with eight assists. Kelsey Tuthill added eight assists on a 32-for-32 effort.
Winthrop (11 kills) led things at the net. Katie Watts (12), Tuthill (10) and Scott (7) topped the digs list.
"We started playing some offense in the second game and putting the ball away," Wheatley added. "We've got some great hitters and need to use them more. There were some great digs by Tuthill and Watts."
In the freshman match, EHS (0-1-1) tied Christopher 19-25, 25-23. Kaylee Gresham had nine points and four aces.
Christopher won the junior varsity battle 20-25, 11-25.
Adrienne Hardwing (eight points, three kills) topped the Lady Falcons.
