Peggy Saunders

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[ Peggy A. Saunders, 99, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:30 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2008, at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Peggy was chief operator and service observer at General Telephone for thirty years. She was the oldest living member of the Sunfield United Methodist Church, where she rarely missed a Sunday. She was a member of United Methodist Women, Independent Telephone Pioneers and had served as district officer for United Methodist Women.

She was born April 20, 1909, at Sunfield, the daughter of Robert C. and Leda Kate (Marsteiner) Saunders.

She is survived by one sister - Leda Bailey of Du Quoin, two nieces - Ruth Bailey and Jan (Richard) Weinberg, two nephews - Don Schutt and Joseph (Pat) Saunders, one cousin - Virginia Sawyer, great nieces and nephews - Kate (Brandon) Salsman, Rachel Downs, Adam Downs, Jeremy (Sheila) Saunders, Clarissa (Karsten) Randolph, Jenny Saunders, Jared Saunders, Matthew Weinberg, and Charles Weinberg, and three great great nieces - Mia Randolph, Lily Therese Downs, and Anne Rachel Salsman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters - Esther Saunders in infancy and Catherine (Arnie) Schutt, one brother - Joseph (Relda) Saunders and one nephew - James Saunders.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, September 1, 2008, at the Sunfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Kesling officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday.

Burial will be in the Tamaroa Cemetery at Tamaroa.

Friends may make memorials to the Sunfield United Methodist Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
